How Can You Rate How Glossy
That Polished Concrete Floor Is?
Polished concrete floors range vastly in glossiness. It’s best to have a clear definition of what polished concrete gloss means, so that both the customer and the concrete contractor have similar expectations. That is why the Concrete Polishing Association of America has put together a rating system, with Level 1 being a flat look with barely any clarity or reflection, and Level 4 being a highly polished, mirror-like shine.
What is “Distinctness of Image (DOI)”?
DOI is the sharpness of images of objects produced by reflection at a polished surface. This is sometimes called “image clarity.”
How is DOI measured?
DOI is measured with an image clarity meter. The image clarity value will range from 0 to 100 with a value of 100 representing perfect DOI.
How many tests do you need to do?
The minimum number of tests across a 1,000 square foot polished surface is three. You should do an additional test for every additional 1,000 square feet. (Ie, a 10,000 square foot area would require 12 tests.) When you are done with the tests, you average the results to get the score.
